— The 3rd Annual Sussex County Lifeguard Competition will be held at Lake Mohawk Country Club’s Beach 1 on Monday, August 8. Lifeguard teams from throughout Sussex County are invited to this fun and spirited competition in lifesaving skill events. The Lake Mohawk Country Club in cooperation with the Sussex County Aquatic Safety Coalition will again host this year’s competition.
The competition is designed to bring waterfront lifeguards from the many aquatic facilities within the county to compete and demonstrate their lifeguard skills. “And to have some fun and get together,” said Rich Carlson, Waterfront Director for Lake Mohawk CC. “It’s great to see the guards interact from the different lakes, comparing notes and stories.” Some even exchanged shirts.
Last year, over 40 Lifeguards competed in events ranging from an Open Water 500 yard swim, rescue tube relay, paddleboard relay, a run/swim/run/swim relay and backboarding. Lake Mohawk Pool team took first place last year taking home the “travelling” trophy. The winning team gets to keep the trophy until the next competition.
Medals are awarded to each team member placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd and all participants receive Competition shirts. Last year, each team was presented with a rescue tube from Suspended Aquatics.
The evening event includes a BBQ for the participants during the award ceremony. Sponsors for this year’s event are Lake Mohawk Country Club, Suspended Aquatics, Tulpenhocken Water Co. and the Lake Mohawk Pool as well as the Sussex County Aquatic Safety Coalition.
