Saturday was the 20th annual Junior Zookeeper Day held at Space Farms Zoo & Museum.
Although afternoon temperatures topped out at 94 degrees, families toured the grounds with zookeeper Hunter Space as he fed a variety of carnivores including bears, tigers, lions, and leopards. With the help of WSUS Radio DJ Steve Andrews, Assemblyman Parker Space taught the crowd more than a thing or two about snakes, both venomous and non-poisonous. The program began with Lori Space Day and her father Fred Space teaching the children about wild turkeys.
The next special event at the zoo will be on August 20, when the zoo once again offers its special Teddy Bear Day. Children are admitted free when they bring their teddy bears for a visit to the zoo and then home again.
Each child must be accompanied by an adult paid admission. Magician Scot Morley will perform at 2 p.m. and the teddy bear contest will be held at 3 p.m. with prizes for the winners. There will also be a human corral with the kid goats and lambs and human kids, and much more.
