Libraries plan to stop summer brain drain

NEWTON — The Sussex County Libraries are offering a variety of fun programs this August to help re-engage kids’ critical thinking skills in time for school to start again.

Summer Science

George Fischer from Picatinny Arsenal will be at the Sussex-Wantage Branch in Wantage at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, to lead hands-on experiments exploring conductivity and magnetic fields, and to talk about the cool science behind liquid nitrogen. This program is recommended for kids entering grade 3-and-older. Registration is required.

Tech for All Ages

Learn about advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, and technologies so new they haven’t yet been named. Ralph Tillinghast of the Collaboration and Innovation Lab at Picatinny Arsenal will lead this fascinating talk being held at the Main Library in Frankford on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Recommended for kids entering grades three and above, Registration is required.
Let’s Talk About Gaming
Gaming enthusiasts are invited to the Louise Childs Branch in Hopatcong to learn about the latest trends and technologies in gaming from Anthony Ur, a Visual Information Specialist from Picatinny Arsenal. This program will be held on Tuesday, August 9 at 6:30 p.m. and is recommended for kids entering grades two and above. Registration required.
Make Your Own Ice Cream
Learn about heat transfer in the most delicious way possible. Kids entering grades 2 and up are invited to the Main Library in Frankford on Friday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. to make ice cream and eat it too. Registration is required.
