Miners plan first ever Star Wars Night

| 11 Aug 2016 | 11:40

Back to school shopping may mean that summer is drawing to an end, but there is still time to catch some Sussex County Miners baseball before the end of the 2016 season.
May the force be with you on Saturday, August 13 when the Miners host their first ever Star Wars Night. Get your picture taken with your favorite Star Wars characters, all while wielding your very own lightsaber – that is, if you arrive early. The first 1,000 fans in attendance for Star Wars Night will receive a free lightsaber. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and first pitch against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Miners are also excited to announce their first Ladies Night at Skylands Stadium. On Friday, Aug. 12, fans can enjoy a wine tasting, shop for different products from local vendors and even enter for your chance to win prizes from the Miners and other sponsors. Upon entering the stadium, the first 200 women in attendance will receive a free gift bag, courtesy of our sponsors. Wine for the event will be provided by Gallo Wines. Gates open at 6 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
If you missed the many fireworks shows at the All-New Skylands Stadium this year, or if you just want to come back for more, you still have two more chances in August. On Friday, Aug. 5, the Miners will shoot off their spectacular fireworks after their game against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. August 5 is also the rescheduled date for Paint the Park Purple night, presented by Relay for Life. The Miners will partner with Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society to put together a special event dedicated to raising cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to dress in purple to show support for the cause. The final fireworks show of the season is Saturday, Aug. 27. Gates open for both games at 6 p.m. with first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
The end of the Miners’ season means the beginning of the school year in Sussex County and the Miners are helping kids get ready on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The Miners are partnering with the Kids Educational Enrichment Program (K.E.E.P.) to provide the first 500 fans in attendance with a Miners coloring book. First pitch against the Ottawa Champions is at 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 6 p.m.
Finally, where would the Miners be without their fans? On Wednesday, Aug. 24, the Miners pay tribute to the people who have supported them all season with Fan Appreciation Night. The Miners will be offering special Fan Appreciation ticket packages and the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a special giveaway item. First pitch against the New Jersey Jackals is at 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 6 p.m.
