Donald J. De Korte, 84 died Saturday Aug. 13, 2016 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. Mr. De Korte, son of the late John and Henrietta (Esselman) De Korte was born in Paterson, N.J., on Feb. 6, 1932.
Mr. De Korte formerly managed the Franklin Lakes Dairy Farm and later retired from the Township of Wantage where he served as the Township’s Tax Assessor. He was also a former Mayor of Wantage Twp.
Mr. De Korte was a captain with the US Army having served as did his brothers, John De Korte and Richard De Korte. He was a member of the PVT. Charles Auberger American Legion Post #213 of Wantage.
Mr. De Korte was an avid hunter and enjoyed reading and playing cards. He loved watching his grandchildren play sports, but most importantly he cherished his time with his family.
Mr. De Korte was predeceased by his wife Marie De Korte in 2015 and is survived by his daughters, Kathleen Kieb and her husband Charles of Frankford Twp. and Karen Drossel and her husband Joseph of Wantage Twp.; grandchildren, Kaleigh Scott & her husband Michael and Joseph & Christian Drossel as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday Aug. 17, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home 27 Third St. Sussex. Interment will follow at Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery, Wyckoff. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. American Legion services will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to PVT.
