Supplies for Soldiers host collection drive

Last weekend, Supplies For Soldiers held its first collection drive at the Vernon ACME Market.
“Even 100 degree heat and drenching humidity didn’t keep people from donating to Supplies For Soldiers” said Mark Wolfe, Director of Supplies for Soldiers. “Many of the people that donated money and supplies offered us bottles of water or drinks from Starbucks”.
Supplies For Soldiers collected 27 boxes of items which equates to over 800 pounds of food and hygiene items.
“The response from the Vernon and Warwick community was fantastic," Wolfe said. "While some recognized us from other collection drives, that didn’t stop them from donating this time as well.”
Also volunteering to help over the weekend were Jacob Wolfe, son of Mark and Nancy Wolfe. Additionally, Joe Deschaine volunteered to help. Joe is a Sergeant in the US Army and was with Nancy during her deployment last year at Kandahar, Afghanistan.
“We are so happy that ACME could be there to help our troops” says Eileen Reinhagen-Wurst, store director for ACME Market in Vernon.
“The ACME staff really stepped it up for us” Wolfe said. “From the cashiers that have to bag things differently to Wayne the cart attendant. They all made us feel welcome. Our next collection drive is at the ACME Market in Sussex Sept. 3 and 4.
Supplies for Soldiers is looking for “Corporate Partners”, local drop off locations, and donated warehouse space.
