Drew Krause on Tuesday began his first year as the principal of Vernon Township High School.
Originally a lawyer, Krause returned to school to begin a career in education, starting his teaching career at Wallkill Valley Regional High School, where he taught for 10 years before deciding he wanted to pursue a career as an administrator.
"I wanted to make an impact at a higher level," Krause said.
Since leaving Wallkill Valley, Krause joined the supervisory team of the Vernon Township School District. Recognized as a trusted faculty member within the district, Drew has held various administrative titles throughout his six years at the Vernon Township High School, including assistant principal and guidance supervisor.
Known for his affable personality and firm leadership, Krause was selected to lead the charge in the creation of the school’s Freshman Academy. An enormous undertaking, the VTHS Freshman Academy was modeled after a team-centric learning environment for the high school’s ninth grade student body, whereby classmates followed similar course rotations and bonded over shared activities. The Academy continues to thrive and is beginning its fourth year.
Drew’s planning and management skills have further been utilized during district-wide testing periods of the national PARCC Assessment. Aware of education’s digitally-inclined future, Drew recruited the efforts of the district’s technology team to ensure that all testing facilities were equipped with state-of-the-art computers and ample high-speed internet access. Together, their hard work ensured the safety and satisfaction of providing superior testing environments for all student participants.
As Drew approached the Educational Forum podium, he made his first public appearance as Vernon Township High School principal before the Vernon community. Addressing the audience, Krause assured parents and educators that the high school administration will continue to support student development and achievement, in all aspects of student life. Moreover, he enthusiastically mentioned the various academic and technological opportunities that Vernon Township High School provides to its millennial adolescents, as the school rapidly expands its student offerings.
Backed by experience and bolstered by an enthusiasm for student achievement, Krause said he is ready to lead the Chromebook generation, now entering Vernon Township High School. Echoing the same sentiments that first steered him toward a career in education, Drew stated,
“I hope to galvanize teachers and work together with administration to make progress at Vernon Township High School," Krause said. "And most importantly, I want to give all students a meaningful high school experience.”
