Vernon announces athletes of the week

VERNON — The Vernon Township Athletic Dept. has announced its athletes of the week for Week 1.
Mike Stefkovich was named the district's male athlete of the week. He is a junior running back and outside linebacker on the football team.
He had 18 carries for 94 yards and a rushing touchdown in Vernon's opening 25-22 win over Montville on Sept. 9. He also had 5 tackles, one solo, and a tackle for a loss. Coach Paul Tepper stated Mike's leadership and work ethic earned him being named one of the captain's for this years team.
Maddie Labance is a sophomore forward on the girls soccer team. She scored 4 out of 5 episodes in the Vikings wins over North Warren and Newton. In both games, she scored the game winners with less than 10 minutes to play. Coach Carlson stated that Maddie has a knack for finding the back of the net. She will certainly be in opposing teams defensive game plans moving forward.
