Skylands Gallery gets 'Fired Up'

“What Gets You Fired Up?” That’s what the Skylands Gallery & Studio asked artists to think about when submitting artwork for its current show.
It is personal, catastrophic, feelings, materials — what is it that prompts these artists to create? The result is an interesting and diverse show of artistic mediums, techniques, and subject matter.
A free opening reception was held last Saturday from 5:30-9:30 p.m., and featured artwork by the members of this artistic coop, plus eight guest artists from Morris, Bergen, Sussex, and Union counties in N.J., Orange County, N.Y., and Pike County, Pa. Complimentary food and beverages were served and Nicholas A. Giardina entertained the patrons with melodious renditions on his acoustic guitar. The show will continue through Sunday, October 9. • Besides fine art, the gallery also shows a large selection of high- quality crafts, including jewelry, hand-dyed silk scarves, and handbags.
The next opening reception is Saturday, November 5 from 5:30-9:30 p.m. The theme is Small Works, which coincides well with the upcoming holiday, gift-buying season. Artists interested in participating in the open call should contact the gallery.
