Project Help receives non-profit status

Project Help received its 501c3 status from the IRS last week.
“We are very pleased and delighted that we were able to achieve this in record time. Stories of a year or more have been travelling around and we consider this a “gift” to have achieved this in less than three months”, said Sandy Mitchell, founder and executive director.
Project Help was just that 20 months ago … a project. The mission was to collect clothing and money for the SOSvets Closets and the Unmet Needs fund administered by Catholic Charities. With the support of the Wayne Lions Club, the project was a huge success and that was when Sandy Mitchell decided to make Project Help an entity. So, in early 2016 Project Help became a nonprofit corporation and applied for its tax exempt status, known as a 501c3 charity.
Having this status enables donors to take a tax deduction for donations to Project Help. Always check with a tax professional as to what the tax laws allow. It also exempts the organization from all taxes, including sales and income tax.
Currently the existing board of directors is looking to add qualified people to its ranks. The most important thing required to become a board member or committee member is that veterans and their plight is something the applicant feels a great allegiance to.
Project Help’s mission is to support veterans and their families during their time of need.
“Just recently we were able to assist a veteran in the area who was in dire straits," Mitchell said. "We were able to remedy his financial situation, get him employed and gift him food and gas cards to help him through his unpaid time while awaiting his first paycheck. Here is a note from him about how much this help mattered to him."
