Doing it for the critters

Despite passing rain showers, Sunday brought hundreds of visitors and their canine companions to the annual “Walk-a-Dog-a-thon” held at the main beach area of Wawayanda State Park.
The event was a fundraiser for the West Milford Animal Shelter.
Prizes were given for those individuals, families, and groups that collected the most to benefit the shelter and each dog that participated received a free goodie bag and bandana.
There were also four contests: Best Dressed (owner and dog), smallest and largest dog by size, and Pucker-up (best canine kisser). During the event, an announcer mentioned that over $17,000 had already been raised by the event.
According to the shelter, every $10 raised will feed one homeless cat, kitten or dog for two weeks. The West Milford Animal Shelter is completely maintained and managed by volunteers and every penny raised directly benefits the homeless shelter animals.
