Theresa Conroy Neubauer

Theresa Conroy Neubauer, 95, died at St. Anthony Hospital, Warwick, N.Y., after a brief illness, on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. Born Theresa Margaret Callery to John M. and Mary Ann Callery in Jersey City, NJ. Mrs. Neubauer resided in Highland Lakes for the past six years. Her previous residence of many years was in Vernon, N.J.
Mrs. Neubauer was predeceased by her husbands, David F. Conroy of Jersey City (1970) and by George Neubauer of Vernon (2001). She was also predeceased by her daughter, Therese Conroy Gimbl (1996), her grandson, Stephen Matthew Gimbl (2002), and her grandson-in-law, Matthew Leo Heroux (2005).
Mrs. Neubauer is survived by four children: Mary Ann and Anthony Kaicher of Highland Lakes, Patricia Conroy Reinhardt of Warwick, N.Y., Margaret and Bruce P. Miller of Princeton, N.J., David F. Conroy and Margaret of Chatham, N.J., and her son-in-law Stephen J. Gimbl of Emerson, N.J., Mrs. Neubauer is also survived by 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mrs. Neubauer was retired from the staff of the Vernon Township Board of Education in 1985 as a Transportation Clerk. Prior work experience included secretarial work for Seckler & Sheppherd Realtors in Highland Lakes and Assistant to the Sugar Buyer for the A&P Tea Company in the Chrysler Building in Manhattan. She was a graduate of Academy of Saint Aloysius in Jersey City and attended Fordham University Evening Division before her marriage. During her residence in Vernon, she was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church in Vernon. Since her move to Highland Lakes, she attended Our Lady of Fatima Church.
Mrs. Neubauer leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her step-children.
Mrs. Neubauer’s interests were divergent, energetic, and always interesting. After her retirement she took courses at SCCC, enjoyed the XYZ Club at St. Francis, and volunteered to be a companion for a cancer patient for over six years. Mrs. Neubauer was noted for her charming wit, her infinite optimism and her joyful smile.
Relatives and friends were received on Friday, Sept. 23, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94, Vernon, NJ (GPS use 1 Vanderhoof CT). The family will gather at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Resurrection at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Highland Lakes, N.J., and burial will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery.
