Playhouse prepares for ‘The Odd Couple’

SUSSEX BOROUGH — For comedy and theater lovers there is a special treat coming on Oct. 7-9 and Oct. 14-16 when the Cornerstone Playhouse presents the iconic American comedy The Odd Couple.
Directed by Tim Chenard of Newton, the play stars Vernon resident Tim Mullally who plays the part of Oscar Madison and Thom Penny of Newton portrays the part of Felix Ungar. Additional performers include Laurie Mantia of Montague, Cheryl Sullivan of Jefferson, Tom LiTrenta of Sandyston, Raymond Ayers of Andover) Lauke Gomez of Wantage, and Tommy Wright of New York City. •
According to Penny, the Cornerstone Playhouse was founded in 1976 in Lake Mohawk in Sparta. The group had humble beginnings, starting out as a group of friends staging productions at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. The club would grow in size to over one hundred and fifty members through its thirty-five years in Lake Mohawk, becoming one of the largest performing arts organizations in Sussex County.
In 2011, Cornerstone made the leap from the Lake Mohawk Country Club to the historic Crescent Theater in Sussex. Prior to their arrival, the Crescent Theater had been home to Tri-State Actors Theater. Cornerstone had its grand opening in their new home on October 28, 2011 and has enjoyed performing to audiences for five years.
