Vernon honors outstanding athletes

VERNON — The Vernon Township High School Athletics Department has announced its athletes of the week, Alyssa Sasso of the girls' tennis team and Parker Shade of the boys' socccer team.
Sasso won both her matches in team play this past week only giving up 2 games. At the HWS tournament, she won two matches advancing to the quarterfinals.
Coach Miller states that Alyssa has committed herself to constantly improving her tennis game and her hard work is paying off. She possesses a highly competitive character that is evident every time she takes the court.
Shade has led the boy’s soccer team in goal this year. The Vikings picked up two key independent wins over Lenape Valley and Wallkill Valley by identical scores of 1-0 this past week. Parker totaled 27 saves for the week and made a few “highlight reel” saves to earn the two shutouts.
Coach Jones states that Parker is the vocal leader of the team on the field. He never questions anything of him and gives 100% during both games and practices.
