Niel Edward Melendy, Sr.

Niel Edward Melendy, Sr., 64 years old, died unexpectedly at Saint Clare’s Hospital, Sussex, N.J., on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016. Born to Cornelius and Ella Melendy in Hackensack, N.J., he lived in Lodi, N.J. before moving to the Highland Lakes section of Vernon Twp., N.J., 32 years ago.
Niel worked as a mechanic at Cameco in Verona, N.J. for 20 years retiring in 2014. He was a member of the Sussex County Amateur Radio Club, an avid Jets and Yankees fan and enjoyed playing golf, riding his Harley and especially cooking and fishing with his grandchildren.
Niel is the beloved husband for 44 years of Sandra Melendy (nee Freitag) of Highland Lakes, N.J. Devoted father of Melissa Day and her husband, William, of Vernon Twp., N.J., and Niel E. Melendy, Jr. of Newton, N.J. Loving grandfather of Brandon, Alexander, Jalyn, Maxwell, Elizabeth and Emma. Dear brother of Jean Passerini of Byram Twp., N.J. and Catherine Demerest of Toms River, N.J.
The family will receive their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, NJ on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral service to follow at the funeral home at 5 p.m. Cremation is private.
