Crystal Cup determines final qualifiers

Franklin — The final opportunity for Crystal Springs Golf Resort Members to qualify for the end of season Crystal Cup Championship scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 19, was held at the Black Bear Golf Club on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
The final members tournament attracted a full roster of competitors who were looking to win prizes for a win at the 6th Crystal Cup qualifying tournament as well as have their names added to the list of Crystal Cup Championship qualifiers.
As in past Crystal Cup Member events golfers competed in in 4 Divisions, Men’s Division, Women’s Division, Senior Division and Couples Division, for prizes and points awarded toward the end of the year championship. At the end of play the scorecards were tallied and the team of Fred Staniewicz and John Kochan’s net score of 13 under par 59 was one better than the 2nd place score of 12 under par 60 achieved by Dan Kostecki and Philip Rottini to claim the title of Men’s Division Champions.
Top honors in the Women’s Division went to the team of Mary Lou Nicoletti and Joan Huffine with a net score of 10 under par 62, while the Senior Men’s team of Joseph Giammarino and Michael Antola outpaced the 2nd place team of Bill Iolonardi and John Schneider by 5 strokes to claim that Division’s title with a score of 15 under par 57.
The team of Buffy and John Whiting from Vernon carded a score of 11 under par 61, one better than the team of Dona and Robert Wallerius to win the Couple’s Division.
The event featured skill events for the longest drive and closest to the pin. John Dankworth took the prize for Men’s Longest Drive while Maunia Vizanko was the Women’s Division winner. Senior Longest Drive honors went to Pete Cairnie who was a repeat winner in the closest to the pin event with a tee shot that came to rest 7’10” from the cup. There was no winner in the Women’s Closest to the Pin competition, so the prize was awarded to the lowest gross score of the day, a 3 under par 69 carded by SangSoo Lee.
The Crystal Springs Resort’s Crystal Cup Member Championship is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Ballyowen Golf Club that will include all of the golfers who qualified during the 6 monthly qualifying tournaments will compete for the honor of being named the 2016 Crystal Cup Champions in their respective divisions.
