Veterans bill passes Assembly

Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Parker Space to streamline the unemployment process for veterans was approved today by the General Assembly.
The bill allows out-of-work veterans to claim unemployment insurance benefits online.
“This measure levels the playing field for vets who are out of work and currently not permitted to file their claim online,” explained Space (R-Sussex, Warren, Morris). “These fine men and women who have sacrificed so much shouldn’t have to travel to an office and wait in line when the general public can easily apply online. Being unemployed is stressful enough, they don’t need this added burden now that the technology is available.”
Currently, veterans, former employees of the federal government, and people who have been employed outside the state are unable to file online because the Department of Labor and Workforce Development do not have access to their work records.
The state website to open a claim or to certify weekly benefits is available at https://njsuccess.dol.state.nj.us/html/uimain.html .
