Ruth Post Shannon, 96, died March 3, 2016, surrounded by her family.Born in the Beemerville section of Wantage on Sept. 24, 1919, she was the daughter of John and Edna (Beemer) Post and was raised in the farming community surrounding Sussex. Ruth graduated from Rider College with a degree in Business Education and taught at Revere, Pa., and Franklin. On June 25, 1945, she married the Rev. Frank C. Shannon. As a Methodist minister's wife, Ruth provided countless hours of support to their congregations in New Jersey (Mt. Herman, Clinton, Roseland, Belleville, Haledon),and Port Jervis, N.Y. In each church, she worked to enhance the spiritual life of the community as well as the financial soundness of the congregations. Her final church home was the Sussex United Methodist Church. Ruth was a life-long proponent of education, always encouraging her children to read and to explore their avocational,intellectual and artistic interests. Ruth enjoyed playing the piano, flower arranging, photography, cake decorating, and greatly loved animals. She cherished her time at Lake Pochung and Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, and is survived by their children, Lyle (Terrie), Carl (Chris),and Ruth Ann Shannon; a grandson, Ben Shannon (Dana); and her twin brothers, John (Lois) and Ted Post. The family thanks the staff at Bristol Glen and Compassionate Care Hospice for their loving care, and Pastor Dan Gepford, friends and relatives who provided tremendous encouragement and support. Interment Services will be on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Beemerville Cemetery at 11 a.m. with a memorial service held at the Sussex United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m.
