Woman's Club shows support for troops

| 17 Oct 2016 | 02:41

The 2016-17 Vernon Township Woman’s Club season has begun with a bang.
This group of community spirited ladies is participating in a statewide initiative of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs by partnering with Boatsie’s Boxes. Along with donations from other organizations, Boatsie’s Boxes is able to reach over 20,000 troops annually in every branch of military service, Marines, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen; many on the front lines of operation in Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kuwait and Korea.
The Vernon Club created 12 giant Christmas stockings, stuffed to the brim with holiday treats for our deployed troops overseas, who otherwise might not receive any other holiday cheer.
The Vernon Township Woman’s Club works together to find many community efforts to help make a difference on every level: local, state, nationally & internationally. If you are someone who believes it is important to give back and wants to enjoy doing it, come as a guest to the next meeting.
Monthly meetings are typically held the fourth Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Vernon Senior Center.
October’s guest speaker, Lori Space Day, will give an informative photographic presentation of the animals at Space Farms Zoo. A third generation zoologist, she has raised lions, tigers, and bears in her lifetime at the zoo. Her first book, "The Zookeeper's Daughter" will be available and she will autograph each purchased book after the presentation.
