An annual parade of fantasy creatures on the mountain

The wind indeed was howling when the puppets, vampires, werewolves, superheroes, and other fantasy creatures came to life for the annual Barry Lakes Children’s Halloween Party/Parade.
Last Saturday afternoon, the clubhouse for the lake community on Wawayanda mountain was filled with ghosts, goblins, and other Halloween trappings as the children entered for their treats. Organized by recreation director Tracy Mulvaney and helpers, the party included amazing scientific sorcery by The Mad Scientist Scott Smolder and his apprentice Tracy Smolder; face-painting Pixie Pop the Clown, Kerry Tobin of Highland Lakes; and magic tricks by Zackary and Zoe Smolder.
The party concluded with the traditional Halloween parade during which the children’s costumes are judged in different categories.
The winners this year were: “Cindy Lou Who” Julianna Fruit for “The Cutest”, “Werewolf” Jayden Benoski for “The Scariest, and “The Broken Marionettes” Gabby Defeo and Morgan Mulvaney for “The Most Original.” After, satisfied with their treats and learning a few of the tricks that science plays upon us all, the creatures on the mountain went to rest for another year.
