On Sunday afternoon the Harlem Wizards returned to Vernon to take on the home team comprised of Vernon firefighters and some of their supporters. Rather than a serious basketball game, the Wizards spent most of the game entertaining the nearly 600 people who attended the game.
Vernon’s bravest wore T-shirts thanking Diane and Peter Wexler of Barry Lakes, whose generous donation enabled the team to appear in similar uniforms for the game, which was held at the high school gymnasium.
The halftime score was 31-26 favoring the Wizards. Following a break for a free for all for the kids to test the court and for visitors to enjoy refreshments, the second half helped the Vernon team to catch up a bit with a final score of Wizards 63 and Vernon Home Team 61.
The game was hosted by the Ladies Auxiliaries of the township’s various fire departments with the proceeds going to support the four Vernon Fire Departments.
