Gas tax forced on residents

| 15 Nov 2016 | 04:26

State Senator Steven Oroho cosponsored the bill forcing a 159 pecent increase in the gas tax on his constituents in the 24th District who endure long commutes to work, shopping and etc; but he apparently isn't forcing the residents in other areas of the state, who utilize the taxpayer subsidized commuter buses and rail, to pay anything into the Transportation Trust Fund. Oroho cosponsored this bill with Senator Paul Sarlo, (D - Bergen).
On Oct. 26 and 27, the Star-Ledger quoted Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, (D-Bergen) as saying: "No one here is voting for a gas tax unless we know, and we know for certain, that Bergen-Hudson Light Rail comes to fruition."
On Oct. 26, the Star-Ledger quoted Senate President Stephen Sweeney, Democrat, as saying: "This investment in the Bergen-Hudson Light Rail is going to be a game-changer in the region, it's going to move people around a lot easier than now."
So, while not forcing the residents in other areas of the state, who utilize the taxpayer subsidized commuter buses and rail, to pay anything into the Transportation Trust Fund; Oroho is forcing us, his constituents in the 24th District, to use the money that we need to pay for our mortgages, rent, food, heat, medical, etc into the Transportation Trust Fund so that the residents in Bergen and Hudson Counties can move around easier. How is this fair? Force them to pay their fair share!
I have been told that Senator Sarlo, the bill's cosponsor, is the owner of a major construction company who could apparently benefit greatly from the infusion of additional millions of our tax dollars into the Transportation Trust Fund.
I don't remember reading anything about the proposed extension of the Bergen-Hudson Light Rail in anything Oroho had written supporting his proposed obscene 159 percent increase in the gas tax. By failing to tell us the truth, didn't Oroho actually lie to us? Shouldn't Oroho resign immediately?
