Florida Community Food Pantry seeks your help so it can help others

FLORIDA — More than ten years ago, the Florida Presbyterian Church began fund raising to create a dedicated space for the Florida Community Food Pantry, a church mission since 1991.
This weekly, important church mission serves families not only in the Village of Florida but also families in Goshen, Chester, Pine Island, Greenwood Lake and Warwick.
In 2016, the pantry has served more than 2,600 families including 5,712 children, adults and seniors and supplied food for more than 51,500 healthy meals.
The food pantry building includes more than 1,000 square feet of dedicated space and storage for the pantry, a handicap accessible bathroom and a pastoral office and meeting room for the church.
"We have successfully been able to finish the foundation, framing, roofing and windows but unanticipated changes to the design and associated construction costs, along with new code requirements, have left us short of funds to finish this exciting project by approximately $25,000," Laura McLaughlin wrote in an email to The Warwick Advertiser seeking the public's help.
Donated funds, McLaughlin added, will be used to install heat/air, sheetrock and complete the electric and bathroom.
People interested in donating may either mail a check made out to the Florida Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 94, Florida NY 10921 or just access our Go Fund Me page at http://www.gofundme.com/floridafood-pantryoffice-building.
"Any amount is appreciated," McLaughlin said. "The smallest tax-deductible donation can help us purchase outlet covers or even door knobs. It all adds up."
