The Vernon Township High School Athletic Dept. honored its Athletes of the Week for Week 5 of the winter season.
Sophomore Makenzie Thompson has been a huge contributor for the girls swim team this year. She recently took first place in the 500 freestyle and second in the 100 backstroke against Kittatinny. She took second in the 200 IM and was a part of the winning 400 freestyle relay in a team win against Sparta.
According to Coach Baldwin, Makenzie has incredible work ethic and is a natural leader. She was definitely one of our missing puzzle pieces that made our team complete this year.
Senior Tyler Ruiz has been taking first places for the boys swim team all season for Coach Miller. He recently placed first in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke against Sparta and then took first in the 100 backstroke again against Kittatinny.
According to Coach Miller, Tyler is our lone captain who leads by example. He pushes himself hard at practice and drives his teammates to match his effort.
