Vernon chamber plans next member meeting

| 18 Jan 2017 | 12:40

The Vernon Chamber of Commerce invites local businesses to join the next member’s meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Vernon Municipal Building in the Senior Center.
This month’s featured guest speaker will be Dr. Charles McKay, who currently serves as the Vernon Township School District Assistant Superintendent. He will share information about the exciting new Career Technical Education Program that can help local students earn college credits while in high school, help fast track them into employment and save thousands of dollars in tuition or certification fees.
What's in this for local businesses? At this time, nearly a dozen business partners have already invested in the CTE programs. These partners have signed on to Advisory Committees helping form curriculum, providing internships and job shadowing, and coming in as guest speakers. For businesses, this provides a voice to tell the local school what is most worthwhile that students should be learning.
An additional note — many of our students have historically left Vernon after graduation and have relocated for jobs. Since many of the chamber's internships and business partners are local businesses chamber officials believe that more students will stay in Vernon for work after graduation, have families in Vernon, buy homes in Vernon, send their children through the schools, and our economy will grow tremendously.
Come learn more about this opportunity to partner your business with the Vernon Township School District’s CTE Program on January 25! Light refreshments will be available. RSVP at info@vernonchamber.com.
