    Christine Van Der Velden, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2016 at Newton Medical Center. Born in Jersey City to the late Carmelo and Josephine (DeMaio) Cafasso, Mrs. Van Der Velden grew up in Hackensack and lived in Paterson before moving to Sussex 14 years ago. She had been employed as a Buyer's Assistant for Grand Union Supermarkets in Wayne and retired 20 years ago. Mrs. Van Der Velden was a member of St. Monica R.C. Church and its Leisure Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Matthew, Sr. in 2002 and her brother, William Cafasso in 1995. Mrs. Van Der Velden is survived by her daughter, Carla Henckel and her husband Peter of Sussex; her three sons, Eric Van Der Velden and his wife Gina of Cibolo, Texas, Matthew Van Der Velden, Jr. and his wife Debra of Wayne, and William Van Der Velden and his wife Alaina of Jacksonville, Florida; and 11 grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, from the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Monica R.C. Church, 33 Unionville Avenue, Sussex. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hackensack.
