Jeremy Felix, a seventh-grade student at Glen Meadow Middle School, is the winner of a Scholastic Scope national essay contest for which he wrote about the bravery of a 15-year-old African-American girl who stood up to injustice in 1950’s Montgomery, Alabama.
He stands proudly holding his prize, a copy of Claudette Colvin: Twice Toward Justice by Phillip Hoose. In his letter of congratulations, executive editor of Scope magazine, Kristen Lewis, writes, “We loved how you captured the dauntlessness and courage of Claudette Colvin with text evidence from the play. Wonderful work!”
His Language Arts teacher, Nancy Grimaldi, agrees.
