High Point hosts open house

SUSSEX — High Point Regional High School administration and staff enthusiastically welcomed over three hundred eighth grade students and parents, recently to the “Eighth Grade Open House.”
Parents and eighth grade students were informed of the many programs available in both the Humanities and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. Humanities Supervisor Aldo Deodino and STEM Supervisor Brian Drelick presented curriculum overviews; and Guidance Director Donna Lembo reviewed the scheduling process.
Over 100 teachers and students showcased classroom activities and projects as parents and students toured the state of the art High Point facilities and departments. Some areas toured included: the Art Department - Craft Room with two pottery wheels, Graphic Design, Weight Room, Business Department, STEM programs, Technology, Architecture, Women and Engineering, Media Room, new Green House, plus Power, Energy, Transportation, and Bridges.
Other highlights were: the Media Program recently purchased a drone in order to produce aerial videos, coding robots, utilizing 3D printers, and interactive student created videos.
Parents and prospective students also spoke with representatives of over 30 clubs and activities at an Activities Fair. Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA,) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA,) and Technology Student Association actively prepare students for future careers.
In addition, the band and choir members performed; and Theater Program students tap danced a routine from their upcoming spring production, “42nd Street.”
