Grant W. Nye

Grant W. Nye, 85, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. He was born on September 17, 1931 to the late Edward and Grace (nee Conselyea) Nye.
Grant was born in Orange, resided in West Orange and moved to Vernon in the home he built in 1971.
At the young age of 17, Grant joined the United States Army and at age 18 volunteered for combat duty in Korea. He served one year with the 1st Cavalry from 1950-1951. Due to his extraordinary service, he was the recipient of 5 Battle stars.
Grant was a carpenter for Carpenter Local Union 620, Madison, NJ. Upon retiring at age 62, he worked for an additional 15 years at the Vernon Township High School in the maintenance department. He also volunteered for Harvest House in Sussex and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Grant was an avid runner, running his first of 8 New York City marathons at the age of 59.
Grant was predeceased by his brother, Edward Nye and his sister, Grace Franco.
Grant is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joan (nee Futko) Nye, and his two sons, Robert Grant Nye and his wife Barbara of Wantage and Thomas Grant Nye and his wife, Susan, of Ardmore, PA, and his six grandchildren, Robbie, Brian, Ashlyn, Claudia, Thomas, and Juliana.
Relatives and friends were received on Friday, Feb. 17, from 4-8 p.m. at the Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94, Vernon, NJ (GPS use 1 Vanderhoof Court)
and will be received on Saturday, Feb. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to time of service at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations, to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
