Cairns wins Sussex Middle School spelling bee

SUSSEX BOROUGH — Sussex Middle School’s National Geographic Bee was held on Jan. 23.
Preliminary rounds continued until we had it was narrowed to the final competitors. These competitors were: Tayia Lombardi, Aya Boussaid, Eliza Lauver, Jeremy Gould, and Kyle Cairns.
Final questions continued until we were down to the final three: Eliza Lauver, Kyle Cairns, and Jeremy Gould.
Tensions brewed until it was down to the last 2 finalists in the Championship Round: Kyle Cairns and Jeremy Gould.
Grueling questions continued until finally Kyle Cairns answered a question correctly to become the school's champion for the second year in a row.
