Wallkill River National Refuge seeks participants for wheelin' turkey hunt

Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge is partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation to offer a mentored turkey hunt and workshop for people with permanent disabilities.
Space is limited to 2 hunters selected via lottery drawing. The workshop day will occur on Saturday April 15th from 8 a.m. to noon at Owens Station Crossing, Sussex, which will include a meet and greet with mentors and a turkey hunting seminar. The workshop day is open to all individuals, regardless of whether they were selected for the hunt or not. Selected hunters will have one day of turkey hunting with a NWTF mentor during Period A or Period B at an exclusive portion of the refuge used only for specialty hunts.
A limited number of off-road, electric tracked wheelchairs will also be available upon request. Shotguns will be provided to participants if needed. Hunter must attend the workshop day to participate in the hunt. Participants will be chosen by lottery.

The lottery drawing for available spots will take place on March 20. A $100 refundable deposit is required for selected hunters and alternates after lottery drawing and must be received by Friday, March 31. Registered applicants must obtain a valid NJ hunting license and Turkey Hunting Area 5 Permit for period A or B (prior to workshop day).
