Vernon Townshipo Academic decathlon team heads to state championship

For the second year in a row, the Vernon Township High School Academic Decathlon team has qualified for the State Competition. After a third place finish in the Super Quiz portion of the day, Vernon’s scholars took a fifth-place finish overall in their section. In addition to their team ranking, individual scholars medaled in categories across the competition.
Shannon Rogers won gold in interview and a bronze in economics; Samuel Wolthoff silvered in math and social sciences and won a bronze in art; Brendan O’Connell won a silver in music and a bronze in social science; Sam Dupont won a silver in art. Alternate team members also garnered wins, which did not get added into the team total. Daniel McKeon won a gold medal in math; Dylan Schiedle silvered in math, economics and music; Victoria Gonzalez won a bronze in math and art; Shane Brennan won a bronze in math. Honorable Mentions were awarded to Sam Dupont in essay, Maya Rakoczy in interview, Sam Wolthoff in science and Nicholas Pohero in social science.
This year, the team is double the size of last year’s team and is composed of some of the top members of every class at the high school. The state competition will be March 4 at Ramapo High School.
