    Feb. 23Kashif Barnes, 20, of Newark was indicted on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and resiting arrest, crimes of the fourth-degree.
    The case was presented to the Grand Jury by Assistant Prosecutor Stephanie LaCarrubba. 
    Arraignment before the Superior Court in Newton will be within the next several weeks.
    Feb. 24Stacey Aho, 39, of Franklin was sentenced to 90 days mandatory home detention, 3 years of probation, a handwritten letter of apology to the victims within 30 days, AA/NA Meeting attendance three times per week, completion of an angermanagement program, 100 hours community services, fines and fees, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $336.
    She pleaded guilty on Dec. 19, 2016, to two counts of Aggravated Assault, a fourth-degree crime and two counts of resisting arrest, disorderly persons offenses.
    Nicholas DeGroat, 37, of Highland Lakes was sentenced to 3 years of probation on condition he undergo a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, handwrite a 250-word letter of apology to Franklin Weis Supermarket, pay $1,406.13 restitution, complete 50 hours of community service, submit a DNA sample, testify truthfully against his co-defendant and pay $155 in court fines and fees.
    He pleaded guilty on Jan. 9, 2017, to third-degree conspiracy to commit shoplifting. 
    In January of 2016, the defendant conspired with a co-defendant to shoplift over $1,400 worth of merchandise at the Franklin Weis Supermarket, including over-the-counter pharmacy items.
    Joshua Buttacavole, 20, of Lodi was sentenced to 5 years of probation with 10 days SLAP as a condition, 90 days of community service to be completed at a hospital or rehabilitation center, 3 month driver’s license suspension, letter of apology to the victims, any new motor vehicle offenses would constitute a violation of probation, completion of a driver improvement course every year the Defendant is on probation, fines and fees, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $3,450 to a victim.
    He pleaded guilty on Jan. 9, to one count of assault by auto, a fourth-degree crime, one count of Unsworn Falsification, a fourth-degree crime, and one count of assault by auto, a disorderly persons offence.
    Feb. 27Michael Betts, 41, of Bear, Del., pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary, a crime of the third degree.
    Sentencing is scheduled for April 28.
    The defendant admitted that in November of 2016 he burglarized two different homes in Vernon and one in Frankford, taking various items from the homes including jewelry.
    Jesus Fabian, 29, of New York, N.Y., pleaded guilty to two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, a third-degree crime, and theft by deception, a third-degree crime.
    Sentencing is scheduled for April 7.
    In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to conducting two credit card purchases on Dec. 21, 2014, at the Newton Kohls using credit cards in the names of other individuals for merchandise totaling $1,255.76.
    Feb. 28Kyle Werner, 27, of Sussex pleaded guilty to burglary, a third-degree crime, unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, a third-degree crime, resisting arrest, a fourth-degree crime, obstructing justice, a fourth-degree crime, and the motor vehicle offenses of leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report, driving while suspended, and reckless driving.
    Sentencing is presently anticipated for April 21.
    In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to entering a Vernon Township auto repair shop without permission and taking a vehicle for a ride on May 29, 2014. He drove the vehicle into a wooden structure at the Vernon Dairy Queen. He abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot from police.
    The case was investigated by Patrolman Stephen Gentle of the Vernon Township Police Department.
    March 1Jennifer Renan, 35, of Newton pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance, a third-degree crime, and a violation of probation.
    Sentencing is scheduled for May 5.
    On Oct. 28, 2016, the defendant was a passenger in a motor vehicle stop. In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to having heroin and crack/cocaine in her possession.
    The case was investigated by Trooper D. McCarthy of the New Jersey State Police.
