Balance class planned in Wantage

| 13 Mar 2017 | 01:09

Garden of Life Massage & Yoga Center in Wantage is offering a weekly Qi Gong class to improve flexibility and balance. The ancient Chinese practice Qi Gong combines slow, deliberate movements, meditation, and breathing exercises.
The movements were not designed to burn calories or raise your heart rate. Instead Qi Gong is a martial art that can help your circulation, balance, and alignment. Qi Gong also helps to restore your energy, called chi or qi (pronounced "chee"). No experience is needed.
The low-impact moving meditations include standing and balancing. Students who cannot stand can still benefit from the class by practicing seated in a chair. Qi Gong is an excellent fitness activity for beginners and people with health conditions, but elite athletes can also benefit from doing the slow movements, because everyone needs better balance and muscle control.
Qi gong is both relaxing and invigorating. It improves flexibility and balance, and is a great way to stay active and vital. The gentle, flowing movements are easy on the joints and help to lower blood pressure.
Classes are taught Mondays at 10 a.m. by Dawn Gomez, at Garden of Life Massage & Yoga Center, located at 9 Boulder Hills Blvd., Wantage. Call 973-875-5433 or visit www.1gardenoflife.com for more information.
