Party marks Easter season

As the weather teetered between coolness and welcomed warmth, locals held egg hunts, and stores and TV commercials accented on bunnies and spring wardrobes, seemingly all necessary parts of the spring season.
On April 8, members and organizers of the Glenwood Baptist Church sponsored an Easter party for five to 12-year-old children in the all-purpose room of the Dorothy Henry Library. The faith based party captured the more serious reason for the season, a loving Jesus Christ and the happy triumph of the cross. The theme of the party emphasized royalty, kings and queens, with children constructing their own crowns. Announcing the different games, songs and crafts in a “town crier” manner, church member Lori Leto announced, “Easter is a joyous occasion filled with miraculous happenings.”
Keeping with the royal theme, young participants played a game called Castle Corners, a type of musical chairs game where children retreated to four corners, the courtyard, the throne, the tower and the dungeon. Children also enjoyed the fast- paced hand-off Scepter Relay race.
Member Cindy Lynch explained the Bible, mentioning that it contains 66 very important books, some being in the Old Testament and some in the New Testament. Lynch summarized the story of the cross, asking the children to express their facial emotions, namely, sadness, surprise and happiness to mark the story. The party concluded with a snack and a yellow take home goodie bag.
