ZDC kicks off competition season

VERNON — Ziegler Dance Centre’s Z Dance Troupe recently attended Star Power Talent Competition at Vo-Tech in Sparta.
The Z Dance Troupe consists of 89 dancers from the Sussex County area, from beginner to advance competitive levels. The troupe competes in all genres of dance from ballet to hip hop, lyrical to musical theatre and everything in-between. The dance troupe is under the direction and choreography of Peggy Ziegler, Renee Ziegler Schmidt, Doreen Ziegler and Bonnie Sybesma and Brianna O’Loughlin. 
There were over 40 dances that placed in the Top Ten Overall for their division as well as receiving special recognition from the judge’s with a “Judge’s Special Award”.  
Soloist Kyleigh Doyle, Vernon, won first overall with her lyrical dance “Take to the Sky” in the all star division. Vocal soloist Sadie Smaldino, Vernon, won first overall with her vocal “Everlasting” in the power division.
Soloist Makayla Snyder, Franklin, won, out of all 11 and younger dancers, the “Wild Intensive Convention Scholarship” This allows her to attend this convention in July with today’s on demand dance instructors/performers.
Hip hop large Group “Rotten to the Core” average age 8 and under won 1st Overall for the all star division.  These dancers also won the “SDA” highest scoring all star division group dance.
Tap small group “Bugle Boy” petites won 1st Overall in the all star division.
enior tap large group “Seven Nation Army” won Outstanding Tap, highest scoring Tap routine for all power division dances.
Junior ballet small group “Carmen” won Outstanding Ballet, highest scoring Ballet routine for all power division dances.
“Wake Me Up” ZDC’s teen lyrical line won 1st Overall in the power division.
Dances “Rotten to the Core”, “Celebrate”, “Brave” “Rockin’ the Boat” and “West Side Story” won a “golden ticket” to World Dance Championships. The tickets put them straight to the Championship round to compete against dancers from around the U.S. and World.
Renee Ziegler Schmidt won Best choreography for age 11 and under dances with lyrical dance “Brave” and Best choreography for age 12 and older dances with lyrical line “Wake Me Up”.
