Vernon honors outstanding athletes

VERNON — The Vernon Township High School Athletic Department announced its Athletes of the Week for Week 1 of the spring sports season.
Freshmen Victoria Grifone has played a big role in getting the varsity softball team off to a 3-0 start this season. She has a one-hitter and two 2-hitters to begin her promising career at Vernon. She has no earned runs in three games and has a total of 27 strikeouts.
Victoria is also batting .333 to lend a hand offensively.
Senior Bryan Forino certainly did not disappoint Coach Saganiec in his first track meet of the Spring Season. Bryan placed first in the 800m, 1600m and the 3200m races against Newton last week.
With the team being a little short due to injuries, Bryan volunteered to run all three events. Coach Saganiec could not be more pleased with his results. He even broke his personal record in the 800m by 8 seconds.
