Marion Van Althuis

Marion Van Althuis, 81, died Thursday April 27, 2017, at her residence in Vernon. Mrs. Van Althuis, daughter of the late Oege and Riemkje (Adema) Speulstra was born in Ferwed, The Netherlands, June 18, 1935. Mrs. Van Althuis came to the United States with her family in 1949 settling in Newton. She later resided in Hamburg, moving to Vernon Twp. 57 years ago.
Mrs. Van Althuis, in the past, was very active with the family businesses, Grandview Builders and Tri-States Concrete. She volunteered and served as treasurer of the Sussex Help Center for many years. Mrs. Van Althuis was an active member of the Sussex Christian Reformed Church and was also active with the Sussex Christian School. She was a doting grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading and music.
Mrs. Van Althuis was predeceased by her husband, William Van Althuis in 2003. She is survived by her children, Debra Mack & her late husband Frank of Greenville, NY, Cynthia Prol & her late husband William of Warwick, N.Y., George Van Althuis & his wife Faith of Wantage and Rosemary Verblaauw & her husband Mark of Vernon; 13 grandchildren, 4 great granddaughters; brothers & sisters, Ymkje Dykstra of Newton, Tina Brands of Wantage, John Speulstra of Silver Springs, MD and Gerrit Speulstra of West Chesterfield, NH as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday May 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Sussex Christian Reformed Church 51 Unionville Ave. Sussex. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home 27 Third St. Sussex. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sussex Christian Reformed Church or Sussex Christian School 51 Unionville Ave. Sussex, NJ 07461.
