Calling All Green Thumbs

| 07 Jun 2017 | 12:57

It’s that time of year again: the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the gardeners are gardening. And they’re not just planting flowers—they’re plotting produce aisles in their own backyards: everything from zucchini and tomatoes to garlic, herbs, pumpkins, and raspberries. Some are even harvesting their own honey.

For the fourth consecutive year, Dirt, the region’s local healthy living magazine, is shining a light on these local backyard food growers with its Kitchen Garden Tour. Ticketholders spend the day going from veggie patch, to orchard, to garden, learning new tips along the way. Afterwards, everyone goes to Mohawk House the restaurant to vote for their favorite backyard gardens and enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, local beer, wine, and live music. Winners are announced and prizes are awarded that evening.

Gardeners of all experience levels and backgrounds participate every year. Nominate a garden today – your own, a friend’s, or a school or community garden – and you’ll be entered for the chance to win two tickets to this year’s event.
