The Life Skills class at Vernon Township High School attended a field trip to Manhattan this month, an adventure they were well-prepared for by the Life Skills, history, music and art teachers, as well as CP history students.
Each student researched and made his own board of Manahattan. They made clay figures of important personages with art teacher Mr. Doug Miller, learned how to say each place name in Spanish with World Language teacher Mrs. Barbara Simmons, and studied the music of important NYC figures with music teacher Mrs Eileen Pavlik.
According to Life Skills teacher Tracy Powell, the CP history students set up a scavenger hunt for her students who had to match up the clay figures they made with events in NYC history. On the field trip, her students were able to pick out famous landmarks, from the Upper East Side to Battery Park.
This trip was the culmination of a year of study which included research and writing historical biographies. As a culmination of this study, the students attended a trip that included Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and other famous landmarks. They students were also given a private tour of FDNY engine 15/ladder 18.
The students were prepared with questions and had excellent feedback from the fire fighters.
