The Vernon Township High School Athletic Dept. honored its athletes of the week for Week 8 of the spring 2017 season.
Junior Catcher Gianna Valsoaney had a big week in the Vikings state run. In the three state games, she went 6-for-8 batting .750. She collected five RBIs, including a triple and a home run.
From the defensive position, she threw two girls out trying to steal second and she had two unassisted outs.
According to Coach Ludeking, Gianna is such a great leader from behind the plate and she always picks up the team when things are down.
Senior Chris Ploch outside hitter and co-captain ended his senior Volleyball career on a high note. Chris had 22 kills, 11 digs and 2 aces in his last match against Lakeland last week in the second round of state tournament play. He also received serve at a 95 percent efficiency.
Chris has been an outstanding student-athlete on and off the court for Coach DeYoung demonstrating great leadership and being a role model for the younger kids in the program.
