Sussex County Library’s Summer Reading Program kicks off on June 23 and 24 with special opening events at each branch.

On Friday, June 23, Rizzo’s Reptiles will educate and entertain children of all ages with their wide assortment reptiles and insects. Rizzo’s will be at the Franklin Branch at 11 a.m., the Dorothy Henry Branch at 1 p.m. and the Dennis Branch at 3 p.m.

Saturday, June 24, Sciencetellers invite children of all ages to set sail on an action-packed adventure to rescue a marooned sea captain and his mutinous crew. Audience volunteers explore the science behind clouds, combustion and air pressure to help the crew set sail. This program will be held at the Louise Childs Branch at 10 a.m., the Main Libray at 1 p.m. and the Sussex-Wantage Branch at 3 p.m.

Opening programs are just the beginning. There will also be story times and special sessions of Read-to-a-Dog for children; teen hangouts; crafting, a nutrition program and book chats for adults; and afternoon movies for all ages. New programs are always being added. Times, dates and details are available through the Events Calendar link at sussexcountylibrary.org.

Incentives build better readers too. Children as young as six months through entering third grade can collect small prizes, stickers and raffle tickets each week for every book they read or have read to them. Tweens, teens and adults also earn raffle tickets for each book read or listened to. Prizes range from outings and gift cards for tweens and teens, to a 10″ Lenovo Tablet for adults.

Stop by your local Branch or go to sussexcountylibrary.org/summer17 for complete details on Summer Reading signups; program dates, times and registration; and a list of all the prizes generously donated by local businesses.
