Rolling Hills students write to pen pals

Letter writing staged a comeback this year when two teachers decided to participate in a pen pal exchange program.
On June 2, Mrs. Reinhardt's second grade students from Kiel School in Kinnelon, N.J., traveled to the Rolling Hills School in Vernon, N.J., with much anticipation to meet their pen pals from Mrs. Fishman's second-grade class. This was a special culminating event that allowed students to meet and greet their "pals" after a yearlong letter writing campaign. Aside from building spelling and grammar skills, students wrote for authentic reasons.
Students were greeted with handsome homemade welcome signs created by Fishman's students. Together they played a "Getting to Know You" game, decorated pen pal shirts and had lunch together.
