Little Spartans led the way at tourney

The youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students of Miller Brothers Mixed Martial Arts & Fitness took third place in the team competition at the 2017 NewBreed Northeast Championship.
The seven students from the Little Spartans program each competed in two divisions, combining to win 9 gold medals, 4 silver medals and one bronze medal.
The Frey family of Jefferson led the way with three competitors. Caitlin, Kristin and Connor combined to win five gold medals and one silver. Both Charles Hooey and Vince Rispoli competed in their first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments and the young grapplers came in first place in both their Gi and No-Gi divisions. Josh Enberg added two silver medals, while Eric Wittrien reached the podium in twice, highlighted by a second-place showing in advanced No-Gi.
Following on the high mark set by the Little Spartans, the adult grappling team had six competitors at the tournament and added an additional 11 medals. Brooke Fahey and Sorkristal Alequin competed in the women’s division with opponents more than 20-lbs. larger than themselves but they didn’t let the size disadvantage stop them. Both women competed and made the podium in three divisions each, including a first-place showing by Brooke in Blue Belt No-Gi.
In men’s competition, Fred Hooey took first place in Advanced No-Gi, adding a silver medal in Gi. Bobby Ingram also found the podium with a second place showing in Gi, while Ray Carroll and Anthony Guzman twice faced off in the medal rounds to bring home a pair of bronze medals.
