    June 19Joseph Gibney, 33, of Hopatcong pleaded guilty to conspiracy and to two counts of forgery, all third-degree crimes.
    Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 25.
    In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to acting in concert with two other individuals to forge checks and actually cash two stolen checks in Hopatcong.
    The case was investigated by Patrolman J. Bianculli of the Hopatcong Police Department.
    Eric Gessner, 25, of Hopatcong pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangers substance, a third-degree crime, and receiving stolen property, a disorderly persons offense.
    Sentencing is scheduled for July 28.
    In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to receiving a personal check, knowing it was stolen, on Oct. 25, 2016, in Hopatcong Boro. He also admitted to being in possession of three folds of heroin on Feb. 22 in Hopatcong.
    The cases were investigated by Patrolman J. Bianculli and Patrolman A. Cirri of the Hopatcong Police Department.
    June 21Charles Puryear, 31, of Newark was sentenced to the custody of the Commissioner of the Depot. of Correction for a period of 30 years.
    Puryear previously pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery and a second-degree firearm’s offense. The state filed a motion to sentence Mr. Puryear to an extended term as a repeat violent offender and Judge McGovern granted that application. Puryear must serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
    The robbery occurred at a motel in Wantage. The victims, E.F. and H.H., were watching television in their room when they heard a knock at the door.  As H.H. got up, the door was forcibly kicked in and Puryear, and his codefendant Marcus Brown, entered the room armed with firearms.  E.F. and H.H. were assaulted and their property was stolen. During the encounter a firearm was discharged inside the motel room.  Both victims were injured during the course of the robbery and transported to Morristown Hospital. The defendant and Marcus Brown were apprehended shortly after the robbery. 
    The case was investigated by the New Jersey State Police and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.
