Summer breezes, lazy dragonflies circling, cool beverages, ice cream and a good book are all part of a carefree summertime.
The summer reading program began the last week of June with programs and activities for the very young to adults. This year’s library theme is “Build a Better World.”
During summer vacation, children will be entertained with animal shows, magic acts, concerts, movies and tons more, even reading. Not a lost art, reading books can win prizes and raffles for young and older.
On June 28, Service Librarian Rachel Burt, hosted Shark Party at the Sussex-Wantage Library branch. Burt guided about 20 children through an hour of fun activities from reading stories about zany sharks, to playing shark bingo and shark toss and crafting a recycled paper shark similar to Bruce the shark star of the 70s movie Jaws.
After enjoying, surfside activities, youngsters enjoyed a snack of, what else, Goldfish crackers and juice. The Build a Better World library branch programs continue throughout the summer. It is a known fact that reading during the summer vacation months keeps a child’s mind active, developing and stimulated during the “off time.”
