Canning Workshop planned

Daryl Minch, Family & Community Health Sciences Educator from Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Somerset County and the FCHS Master Food Preservers will share resources for safe and reliable recipes; show necessary equipment and discuss proper procedures to ensure a safe and high quality product, as part of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station Educational Programs on Tuesday, July 18, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
You will have hands-on experience making pickled beets and herb butter. Dress to cook. All materials will be provided except each person should bring a stick or two of butter. You will be able to take home what you make.
This three-hour workshop is being sponsored by Vernon Valley Farm and the Holy Counselor Church, both located in Vernon, N.J. The produce will come fresh from the farm and the kitchen used will be at the Holy Counselor Church. This community shared event will be a fun, hands-on, way to learn the classic techniques for canning and freezing.
The workshop will take place at the Holy Counselor Lutheran Church kitchen located at 68 Sand Hill Road, in Vernon Township, just off route 94 near Mountain Creek. This is just down the block from Vernon Valley Farm. Registration is required and space is limited to 20 people.
