Local missionaries lend a hand

VERNON — For the fifth year in a row, missionaries from the Vernon United Methodist Church took part of a mission from July 15-22.
the Red Bird mission team was part of a group of 137 people from about 10 churches in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, who joined hands in the repair and renovations of homes to make them safe, more confortable and long lasting for their owners.
This year, the VUMC sent missionaries to the mission center in Beverly, Ky. Pastor Connie Squires, Bobbie DeGraaf, Chuck Reaves, Michele Landtau, Ryan Lally, Sam Perez, Mike Robinson, Diana Witte, Bob Witte, Roger Galloway, Graham Hall and Zack Hall travled by van to Kentucky. Together they worked on three roofing projects, one bathroom project and floor and stair repairs in the community and one dormitory project in the Red Bird Campus.
The VUMC missionaries also delivered 1,219 Box Tops and 88 Labels for Education, which will help the center fund their mission efforts in Appalachia. They also brought 15 dresses, which were made by a group of ladies from Bishop Jane's United Methodist Church in Basking Ridge.
