Area man facing burglary, theft chargers

    VERNON — A Highland Lakes man is facing numerous burglary and theft charges after Vernon police investigated a string of burglaries in the Highland Lakes and Barry Lakes areas of the township.
    As of Tuesday, Aug. 8, Gregory Lamantia, 27, of Highland Lakes was charged with 18 counts of burglary and 20 counts of theft in addition to one count of possession of burglary tools.
    Police said Lamantia was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 1 after a motor vehicle sotp conducted on Route 23 in West Milford by a Vernon detective. Police said the stop also resulted in the recovery of several stolen items.
    Vernon police were assisted on the scene by the West Milford Police Department.
    Police officials said the department is in the process of returning the recovered items to the owners whereever possible and not all stolen items have been recovered.
    Lamantia was sent and remains at the Sussuex County Jail.
