SCCC offers college credits to high schoolers

NEWTON — Students that are in high school can take advantage of the many programs offered to them from Sussex County Community College. These programs expose students to college-level classes that prepare them for college success, builds their confidence, and speeds their way to an affordable degree.
SCCC continues its partnership with area high schools to offer high school students college credits in several different formats. The following programs are being offered.
The Concurrent Enrollment Program (CEP) is a partnership between SCCC and area high schools to provide qualified high school students the opportunity to enroll in college courses as part of their regular school day. General education courses that satisfy basic requirements in a broad range of majors are usually offered.
The Jump Start Program allows current high schools students who qualify, course instruction on the SCCC campus. Students get to experience what campus life is like, which can help ease the transition from high school to college.
The “New” Dual Enrollment Program is a pilot program that gives qualified students access to online courses. These college courses are taught by SCCC faculty members. Currently, five select high schools are taking advantage of the Dual Enrollment Program for their students. The Dual Enrollment courses are available online, eliminating the need to drive from high school to the SCCC campus. The new online courses include economics, history, humanities, psychology and sociology for the fall semester. Check to see if your high school is offering the Dual Enrollment Program.
Earning college credit in high school can help ensure that students graduate from college on time — if not early. Also, the cost of these programs is far less than what students pay once they’re in college, potentially saving thousands of dollars off the cost of a college education.
In order to be eligible for The Jump Start and Concurrent Enrollment programs, high school students must have the required SAT scores or pass the College Placement Test (Accuplacer). Visit sussex.edu/testing for test score information.
